Australian Privacy Act
If you are located in Australia, your personal information is handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). You have the right to access and correct your personal information, and to make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe we have breached the APPs.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
- Firebase Security Rules restricting database access to authorised users
- Secure storage of verification materials
- Location data fuzzing (coordinates rounded to ~1 km precision) before sharing with other users
- Automated content moderation to detect and prevent harmful content
- Role-based access control for administrative functions
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
7. Location Data
DIP collects and processes location data as follows:
- Collection: We collect your location via device GPS (with your permission) or through manual entry. GPS location is collected on-demand (e.g., when you open the app or refresh your location), not continuously in the background
- Precision: Your precise GPS coordinates are stored internally for proximity calculations. Before sharing your location with other users, coordinates are fuzzed (rounded) to approximately 1 kilometre precision
- Geohashing: A geohash is computed from your coordinates for efficient proximity queries
- Display: Other users see your city/suburb name and approximate distance, not your exact coordinates
- Control: You can control whether your distance is shown to other users via privacy settings. You can manually set or update your location at any time
- Gold feature: Gold subscribers can set an alternate "Discover location" for matchmaking in a different area
8. Children's Privacy
DIP is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will immediately disable their account and delete their associated data. If you believe a user may be under 18, please report them using the in-app reporting feature or contact us at support@dipdating.com. See our Child Safety Standards for more on how we prevent and respond to child safety concerns.
9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The DIP website may use cookies and similar technologies (local storage, session storage) to maintain session state and improve user experience. The mobile app uses Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics for usage analytics and crash reporting. Third-party advertising networks in the free tier may use their own tracking technologies in accordance with their respective privacy policies.
You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of the website.
10. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States (where Google and Firebase infrastructure is located) and Australia (where DIP is based). These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries.
Where required by applicable law, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your personal information during international transfers.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by sending you a notification within the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree to the updated policy, you must stop using the Service and delete your account.
